About College : Chapra Government College was set up at Mouza-Shikra, J.L. No.-23 vide G.O. No. 972—Edn (A)/10M-9/13 on the 30th of October, 2013, in the village of Shikra under the Chapra Administrative Block. Being located at a point where students from the adjoining villages (viz. Haatkhola, Mahakhola, Ranabandh and Gongra) can easily commute to, the college provides an excellent opportunity for higher education to the relatively disadvantaged demography of the region. It is also favourably located from Srinagar (12 kms) and can be reached by bus or local shuttle-car service. We are hopeful that the college will evolve, from its humble beginnings, to become an institution that provides quality education to its students.
From the Principal Desk : Chapra Government College is a governmental institution that seeks to impart quality education to its students, urging them on not just to put such education to use for practical purposes such as earning a living or supporting their families, but applying it innovatively to build their own characters in every walk of life. The Chapra block area was in dire need of an institution such as this, and special thanks are therefore due to the Government of West Bengal for setting this college up to fulfil it. Affiliated to the University of Kalyani, the college began its journey from the 2015-16 academic session, with B.A. Honours and Pass courses in five subjects, namely, Bengali, English, History, Political Science and Sociology. There are of course, further plans on part of the Government to expand the college, so as to accommodate several Science subjects in the near future. It has to be left to both the students, as well as the teachers of this college to promote mutual co-operation, both within and outside the classroom to bring this noble venture to a fitting and fruitful culmination. I feel honoured to have been part of it since the beginning, and I hope to serve the college with full readiness of spirit to achieve these very goals.
