NTR Health University PG Counselling Postponed: NTR University of Health Sciences (NTRUHS) has once again bungled the process of admissions to PG medical courses when it abruptly canceled due to protests by some candidates on Friday. It is likely to resume on June 29. The counseling commenced three days ago. Following objections raised by students over seat allocation in the ongoing PG medical counselling at NTR University of Health Sciences here Friday, the counselling has been postponed by two days.
Reason for Postponement of PG Medical Counselling 2018:
University vice-chancellor T Ravi Raju said that some of the students from Telangana region raised objections over seat allocation in the seat matrix system owing to which the counselling was put off. Students from Telangana alleged that varsity authorities deliberately kept more seats in Osmania University limits in open category to favour their students. Telangana deputy CM and health minister T Rajaiah is reported to have stepped in and directed the university to cancel the process and hold it afresh. However, he clarified that a total of 770 seats were filled up till now and clarity would dawn by Saturday whether the counselling will be cancelled altogether or just deferred by two days.
Demands of TG Students on Health University PG Seat reservation:
The aggrieved candidates demanded that the distribution of unreserved (non-local) seats should be even (15 per cent) in all the three universities – Osmania, Andhra and Sri Venkateswara, which NTRUHS Vice-Chancellor T. Ravi Raju said was not possible as the non-local quota was dependent on the total number of seats that vary from one university to another.
Dr. Raju said same norms related to reservation and seat matrix were followed as it was in the past. For instance, OU which has more number of seats than AU and SVU could have 15 per cent earmarked for non-locals but that could not be the case with AU and SVU. In view of the hindrance, counselling has been put off to Sunday after a few hours of the admission process was carried out on Friday. The revised schedule will be informed to candidates, the V-C said.
Initial Schedule of NTRUHS PG Counseling 2018:
As per the original schedule, the university wanted to complete the first phase of counseling by June 29 and go for the second phase in the first week of July as per the MCI instructions. The counselling started on June 25 and the admissions for unreserved category were completed in the first two days. On Friday, admissions were being conducted for reserved categories when the trouble erupted. It is said that some Telangana students are unhappy over the seat sharing ratio.
