Indian Coast Guard (ICG) AKA Indian Tatrakshak is a branch of the Indian Armed Forces under the Defense Department of Defense Ministry. Founded on 19th August 1978, Indian Coast Guard is the fourth service to protect India’s vast coastline and to implement the country’s maritime laws.
Coast guards are responsible for checking the Indian waters and the specific economic zone of India, to prevent illegal hunting, trafficking and other illegal activities. In addition to running a search and rescue operation, they also protect and defend the country’s marine environment.
Indian Coast Guard is not a part of Indian paramilitary forces. Coast Guard works in close cooperation with the Indian Navy, Fisheries Department, Department of Revenue and Central and State Police Forces.
The motto of Indian Coast Guard is ‘Vyam Rakshamah’ which means ‘we are safe’. Coast Guard is the premier agency for implementing all national enactment provisions in the maritime areas of India.
Indian Coast Guard’s missions included:
Conservation of marine resources of India and offshore wealth including oil, fish and minerals
Enforcement of marine law with jurisdiction over both regional and international waters
Protection and protection of marine ecology, environment and rare species
Scientific data collection
Helping the Voyager in the sea and crisis in the sea and property of defense
Indian Navy support during the war

The Indian Coast Guard is led by the Director General and one Deputy Director General. Indian Coast Guard’s Central Headquarters is located in New Delhi. Operations of Indian Coast Guard are divided into four areas:
Western Region (with Regional Headquarters in Mumbai)
Till the Union Territory of Lakshadweep, including the Daman, the entire coastline Kanyakumari comes under command and control of the Coast Guard area (West) and the administrative control. 5 Coast Guard District Headquarters (Porbandar, Mumbai, Mangalore, Kochi and Goa), 7 Coast Guard Stations, 1 Air Station and 2 Air Ranges on the West Coast of India.
Eastern Region (with Regional Headquarters in Chennai)
Kanyakumari for Kolkata comes under the jurisdiction of the Coast Guard Region (East), the Commander of the entire seacoast. 4 Coast Guard District Headquarters (Chennai, Visakhapatnam, Paradip, Haldia and Kolkata), 4 Coast Guard Stations, an Air Station and an Air Enclave on the Eastern Beaches of India.
Andaman & Nicobar Region (with Regional Headquarters in Port Blair)
The Port Blair district headquarters are located in Diglipur and Campbell Bay. The area is an OPV, two FPVs, two FPVs (Jet), an IPV, two IBs, two Dornier aircraft and a Chetak helicopter in this area.
North Western Region (with Regional Headquarters in Gandhinagar)
Two OPVs of Coast Guard, one FPV, one IPV, two hovercrafts, eight ib, two dornier aircraft and two ALH helicopters in this area have a power level.
