The civil service, the backbone of the Indian government system, constitutes all the departments which runs the state administration. Entry in IAS, IPS and Central Services, Group A and Group B is done through the All India Joint Competitive Examination for Civil Services organized by Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) in various centers across the country. However, recruitment for the Indian Forest Service is through a separate process. Entry into the State Civil Services occurs through a competitive examination conducted by every State Public Service Commission.
