Cutoff Marks declaration (Tentative): 08-June-2018 (Evening) : The Tentative Cut Off Marks shall be announced in the evening on 8th June 2018. University will not issue any physical application form or brochure from the office.
Course offered : Two year Higher Secondary (HS) Course in Science and Arts
Selection process : Admission is given purely on merit and is subject to the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) regulations.
Number of Seats available (H.S. Courses):
(i) For Science Group – 480 Number of seats
(Henceforth there will be no Evening Shift for science, instead the seats of this section are adjusted in day shift by increasing one more section)
(ii) For Science Group Arts – 160 Number of seats
Combination of subjects: Combination of subjects will be allotted at the time of admission.
I. Higher Secondary (Science):
- English is compulsory
- A student must select one modern Indian Language (MIL) or Alternative English. In case of MIL, facilities for study are available in the University in Assamese, Bengali, Bodo and Hindi only.
A student must take three/four elective subjects from the following list:
- Physics
- Chemistry
- Mathematics
- Biology/Geography/Statistics/Anthropology/Geology/Computer Science & Application
II. Higher Secondary (Arts) :
- English is compulsory
- A Modern Indian Language (MIL) or Alternative English. Modern Indian Language taught in the University includes Assamese, Bengali, Bodo and Hindi only.
A student must take three/four elective subjects from the following list:
- Economics
- Political Science
- History/Mathematics
- Logic & Philosophy
- Education
- Geography/Anthropology/Statistics/Sanskrit/Arabic/Persian/Advance Bengali/Advance Hindi/Computer Science & Application
Note:
(I) In case of HS Arts, Anthropology is allowed only with Economics, Political Science, History/Mathematics.
(ii) In case of HS Arts, Computer Science & Application is allowed only with Economics and Mathematics (Compulsory)
(iii) As per AHSEC regulation, a student offering computer Science & Application as an elective subject in Science/Arts/Commerce stream shall have to offer Mathematics and two other elective subjects i.e such a student have four elective subjects.
Admission Procedure
Application for HS admission into the University will be made ONLINE by logging into the University website: www.cottonuniversity.ac.in. The eligible candidates will have to pay application fees of Rs.300.00 by Online banking Process or by off-line via ICICI bank Challan.
Admission into the University is made strictly in order of merit and is governed by the University’s Admission Rules and Regulations. The decision of the authority of the university regarding admission will be regarded as final.
Any pressure or interference from any quarter for the admission of a particular student will result in forfeiture of the claim.
After filling up and submission of the form, a pdf will be generated, of which one print out copy is to be taken and required to submit at the time of admission.
Documents to be submitted at the time of admission :
Candidates are required to produce original testimonials at the time of admission:
(a) Mark-sheets of HSLC or equivalent Examination,
(b) Age proof certificate,
(c) HSLC or Equivalent Exam Pass certificate,
(d) Caste Certificate issued by the competent authority of Government of Assam only, whenever it is necessary.
Note : Attested copies of the relevant documents along with the print out copy of the filled in form and 2(two) passport size photographs to be submitted at the time of interview.
Gap Certificate (if required):
Students passing the qualifying examination earlier than the current year will have to submit a Gap Certificate from the Head of the Institution last attended or the Officer in Charge of the nearest Police Station testifying to his/her activities during the Interim period. Candidates having more than 3 (three) years study gap i.e before 2015 will not be eligible for admission.
Admission to the University and the hostels will take place on the same day unless otherwise notified. Necessary payment for the purpose will have to be made on the same day.
Candidates, who passed the CBSE class-10 Final Board examination (NOT school based), are only eligible for admission in HS level. In this regard, at the time of admission, every student will have to produce a certificate from the Head of the Institution certifying that he/she appeared the Board Examination.
The announcement regarding the commencement of regular classes will be made on the date of admission itself.
Reservation Rules for Higher Secondary
There is a provision for reservation of seats as per Govt. of Assam rules mentioned following below.
For OBC/MOBC-15 %
For SC-7%, ST (P) –10%
For ST (H)- 5%
For SC, ST (P), ST (H), OBC/MOBC candidates belonging to the State of Assam and in this respect the Caste Certificate issued by the competent authority under Govt. of Assam only shall be valid.
Some additional seats for students’ welfare:
A few seats may be allotted to the students of HS (Sc & Arts) having outstanding performance in the field of Sports, Culture, NCC, NSS and Scouts & Guides. There shall be a relaxation of 25% of the actual Cut off marks in unreserved category i.e. merit list after admission taken place and students having total marks above mentioned marks shall be considered for selection process and for all categories for admission in EC quota seats.
For each course HS(Sc) and HS (Arts), the maximum number of reserved seats are:
- Sports: 5
- Cultural: 5
- NCC: 3
- NSS : 1
- Scouts & Guides: 1
- Other states : 4
- International: 2
Outstanding sports person/Cultural activist who represented the country in International meet will be admitted directly without considering the cut-off mark. However the maximum number of reserved seats in a particular field will not be enhanced for inclusion of such candidates.
Sport persons will be selected from those disciplines which are recognised by IOC and BCCI and also such sports which are included in All India University meets.
In case of Cultural quota, candidates will be selected for their proficiency in the fields of Music (Vocal), Drama, produce degree/ diploma certificates from recognised institution.
There is a provision of reservation of 3% of the total seats for ‘Differently Abled’ candidates.
A candidate seeking admission in any of the above categories (i to vi), must send scanned copy of his/her original application along with scanned copies of the supporting documents as regards to his/her eligibility for consideration under the concerned quota directly to the Director of Students’ Welfare (DSW) at dsw@cottonuniversity.ac.in via online or offline (hard copies) to his office, Ambikagiri Raichoudhury Bhaban, Opp Food Villa, near RKB Boys’ Hostel, Cotton Campus, Panbazar, Guwahati 781 001.
The Category applied for must be written specifically. Those students admitted under extra-curricular category must participate the events as sought by university authority.
