Freedom school
Freedom school is a democratic school wherein all the stakeholders (from principal to attender) have the freedom to choose all activities of the school which run from dawn to dusk in a free and democratic environment. The main objective of freedom schools is to break all the conventional way of teaching and learning methods like structured classrooms, time bound class periods, exams, passive and rote learning, etc and provide a democratic space for the students to express their inherent potential in various walks of life. The Society runs 87 freedom schools. In Freedom Schools, students are encouraged to pose questions as questioning is the path to enlightenment. The primary focus is questions and discussion rather than memorization of facts and dates. The teachers are well trained to elicit the best from the students in terms of comprehension and their expression of their experiences.
Sainik school
The Government of Telangana has been a trailblazer in establishing the first Sainik School at Rukmapur in Karimnagar as a part of KG to PG program with an objective of preparing the students of underprivileged to the prospective officers in Indian Armed Forces. Admission into this school is in two levels, at 6th and intermediate First year. Bright and enthusiastic students are selected through an entrance test and a physical fitness test. The main focus is on moulding the overall personality of them with emphasis on extracurricular activities and prepare them for National Defence Academy exam besides regular academics.
The Sainik School is located in 26 acre land with a play ground enough for all the infrastructural facilities like running tracks, cross country tracks, parade grouping, boxing rings, firing ranges, canoeing clubs, trekking and hiking clubs and foot ball, hockey, cricket fields as well as volleyball and basket ball courts. The training includes physically and emotionally demanding activities which are exhausting, exciting and adventurous. They are also taught the etiquette, mannerisms which are required for the armed forces. The sainik school transforms the young rural boys into strong, confident boys who are capable of dealing the complexities of the conflict zones in which they have to operate in future.
Armed Forces Preparatory Degree College for Women
TSWREIS has taken a unique step in setting up yet another pioneering venture of training the first-ever batch of girls into armed forces at Telangana Social Welfare Residential Armed forces at Telangana Social Welfare Residential Armed Forces Preparatory Degree College for Women (TSWRAFPDW), Bhongir in 2018. The untrodden path for the rural marginalized girls may be arduous but will lead them to unusual life of prospective officers of the elite Armed Forces and empowers them to break the social taboo of “the weaker sex” and enter the male dominated bastions.
TSWRAFPDW offers a bachelor degree ,B.A, B.Sc, B.Com along with the training in defense competence to 150 lady cadets. At the end of three year course, they graduate with a degree in their respective stream and also prepared to take the NDA exam. The onerous training focuses on facilitating them to imbibe the highest level of discipline, punctuality, duty mindedness, courage and honesty in safeguarding the nation by inculcating in them the best range of skills. The lady cadets are groomed in such a way that they become confident in not only displaying mannerisms and etiquette but in dealing with complexities of the conflict zones in which they have to operate in future. In short, the college is tirelessly transforming Lady cadets into full-fledged prospective officers.
In the midst of cadets marching sync with drums, shoes polishes to a mirror like shine and parade closely scrutinized by the examiners, TSRAFPDCW continues to tread the path less taken. This first batch of lady cadets from Telangana will emerge as the great Indian warriors of the past – Razia Sultana of Delhi, Rani Lakhsmi Bai of Jhansi, Kittu Chinnamma Rani of Gondwana, Chand Biwi of Ahmadnagar and create a new feminist history.
Centre of Excellence College (COEs)
With a noble objective of providing free quality coaching to the students of under privileged sections to climb the ladder of pursuing higher education in top-level national institutions, TSWREIS established 34 Centre of Excellence, with best teaching faculty, infrastructural facilities like laboratories, computer labs with Toppr online facility and libraries with umpteen reference books and study material. The academic activities are so well designed that the students are equipped with various skills like creative , critical thinking ,out of box thinking, collaborative learning, problem solving skills. The stress free environment imbibe the students the confidence to crack national level competitive exams successfully.
The students of COEs show exceptional performance in getting seats in Medical colleges, IITs, NITS, Delhi University, Azimpremji University and various central universities. The bright students are grabbing the opportunities of getting international scholarships under Community College Initiative Programme(CCIP) and Kennedy-Lugar Youth Student Exchange Programme and visited countries like USA, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Vietnam, Cambodia, Poland and Greece to broaden their horizons in a globalized world. The students who get into esteemed professional colleges/universities are given an incentive of Rs.50,000/- and a free laptop. The TSWREIS is a launch pad from where the from humble family backgrounds soar very high in pursuit of their cherished dreams.
School of Fine Arts
TSWREIS launched the first ever School of Fine Arts for marginalized children in the country. With this pioneering venture the students from the deprived sections of the society are destined to reclaim their glory and stardom that genuinely belonged to them. The school of fine arts has been providing a right platform for the marginalized students to showcase their inherent talent which was largely untapped earlier and this school has been breathing a new life into fields like tabla, violin, guitar, classical and Western dance and music, art and craft, script writing, etc., that has traditionally been dominated by elite sections of the society.
Coding school
Code is the language of the modern world. One who doesn’t know coding is a digital illiterate in future. TSWREIS is a step ahead in visualizing the needs of 21st century and established Coding Schools to introduce the students to coding skills, which is a crucial investment in their future, to be ideally placed among top-tier tech companies. Coding schools help to ignite an early interest in digital technology by improving their cognitive skills and prepare young students for future jobs. They contribute to the new economy with a highly desirable skill set that stands the next generation in good stead. While learning coding, students learn many skills like problem-solving, organization, Maths, designing, animation and building video games. It also helps them to express themselves creatively. To catch them young, TSWREIS has taken the initiative of establishing coding schools.
Earth school
In yet another unique initiative, TSWREIS launched ‘Earth Schools’ to take teaching and learning beyond the confines of classrooms. The Earth Schools offer hands-on-experience to students on organic farming, production of organic manure, cultivation of crops, mixed farming, soil fertility, sustainable agricultural practices and harvesting, besides understanding and appreciating farmers’ invaluable contribution to India’s food security. One of the aims of the earth school is to teach students the hardships of farming and farmers. Exposure to farming makes the students sensitive to the suffering of farmers and farm labourers in our country. Fascinated by the very idea of having their own farm, the students have been enthusiastically pitching in with farming activities like planting seeds, watering plants, adding organic manure, harvesting, weeding, etc., with the help of their teachers.
Vocational colleges
Envisioning the sweeping changes in the workplace in 21 century, TSWREIS has taken a calibrate and maiden initiative of launching 34 vocational colleges to prepare the children of neglected sections as competent human resources for socio-economic growth. Vocational training enables them to acquire required job skills to get employment thereby breaking the shackles of poverty.
The main focus of these vocational colleges is to impart trade skills and trade theory along with a broad set of 21st century skills like communicative, leadership, collaborating, soft, critical and creative thinking skills and management capabilities. The vocational courses have been cherry-picked in areas like Education, Health, Dairy, Sericulture, Marketing, Construction, Electronics, Electrical wiring, Commercial Garments, Hotel Management, Beauty and Wellness, Fashion Garments, Agriculture, Banking and Financial Services, They are tailor-made and quite direct in their purpose which is to make students completely job-ready. As a part of training, the students are exposed to similar working environment they cherish to have in future. This practical apprentice program and experiential learning really nurture them to be ‘job generators’ or ‘entrepreneurs’, which was once a flight-of-fancy. The vocational college students started soaring high to realize their dreams not minding their socio-economic constraints.
